2008 Selected Varieties

Spanish Rojo
Gourmet best-seller! Superb classic rich flavor. Easy-to-peel. Keeps well, 4-6 months. Large brown-red cloves (8-12 per bulb). Outer wrapper varies—cream to deep purple stripes. During curing many bulbs lose their stems.

Kazakastan SOLD OUT
Early season. Proudly bearing the name of its homeland, Kazakhstan belongs to a group of older varieties from which commercial garlics have probably originated. The sturdy, tall plants mature 3-4 weeks earlier than mid-season varieties like Music. The white skinned bulbs have 7-8 large, full-bodied cloves each. Hardneck.
Cloves per pound: 59-68

Siberian
An outstanding strain originally secured by fishermen trading green leafy vegetables with poor peasants who grew only root crops. Very large bulbs due to weak flower stalk at U.S. latitudes. 5 to 7 fat, dark brown cloves. Hardneck.

Lorz Italian
A softneck artichoke that has an average maturity date. A northwest heirlom it was imported from Italy by the Lorz family during the late 19th century to Washington State's Columbia River Basin area where it is widely grown. Does well with hot summers and it picks up quite a bit of that heat as it has a very robust, great flavor. Up to 5 clove layers with as many as 15-18 cloves.Large, sometimes flat-round bulbs. Not many smallish interior cloves.

Polish White

Mid-season. This outstanding softneck was introduced into North America around 1900. Polish Softneck is larger than almost any other softneck and has proven to be one of the most winter hardy as well. An excellent choice for Northern gardeners, but performs remarkably well in Southern regions, too. You'll appreciate the large cloves. If you like your garlic hot, you'll love this one! Even after roasting, when most garlics mellow out, Polish Softneck will reward you with impressive heat, but is not too overpowering. Tasted raw, it is PURE garlic and it will remind you of the last hot pepper you ate. Good choice for braiding.

Music
This hardneck is rapidly becoming one of the most popular of the new varieties. The bulbs can be rather large and the cloves have a beautiful pink-white skin. It is grown throughout the northern US where it is prized for its perky flavor. They can be hot! Mid-season. Music hits the top of the charts when it comes to yields. In trials at Michigan State University, Music out-produced all others with a harvest of over 13,500 pounds per acre! White skinned with just a blush of pink, this garlic makes big cloves which are easy to peel. The taste is most often characterized as a medium hot true garlic flavor that lasts for a long time. Under proper conditions Music will store 9 months to a year. Very cold tolerant.

Susanville
Mid-season. Considered an improved selection of California Early. This popular softneck is white-skinned with some occasional pink. It's also one of our best varieties for roasting. The generous-sized cloves slip apart easily after roasting and spread effortlessly on French bread or tomato slices. The mild but true garlic flavor is a hit with all garlic fans. Plus Susanville's large, flattened cloves are an impressive size.
